Fall is my all-time favorite season.

I love watching the leaves change colors, picking apples, carving pumpkins, going to sunflower mazes, and (of course) corn mazes… just thinking about fall activities makes me grin from ear to ear!

Today, I’m sharing one of my favorite fall recipes – baked apple pie.

While it’s not necessary, baking this apple pie with fresh-picked apples is the best.

Fair warning…

You’ll be seeing a lot of fall-themed recipes within the coming weeks. Hope you’re just as excited as I am for the season to change 🙂

Fresh Baked Apple Pie

How to Make Baked Apple Pie

This recipe has two parts to it:

  1. How to make the pie crust
  2. How to make the pie filling

In this particular recipe, I’ll talk about the baked apple pie filling – but check out my homemade pie crust recipe here!

For the delicious filling, I used:

  • 6 Apples (I used somerset, but a lot of people will use honeycrisp – use what you like!)
  • 1/3 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/3 Cup Pure Cane Sugar
  • 1/3 Cup Flour
  • 3 TBSP Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 2  TBSP Butter
  • 1 TBSP Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 TSP Nutmeg
  • Egg Wash Mixture (One egg + 2 TBSP water whisked together)

Let’s get started! Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit and begin slicing your apples.

After your apples are sliced, place them into a large bowl and mix with your lemon juice.

Add both sugars, flour, and your spices to the bowl. Coat apples well and let them sit for about five minutes to release more juices.

Next, place your apples into your chilled pie crust and pack it all in.

Side Note: Feel free to decorate your pie however you’d like at this point. For this recipe, I placed my crust on top of my baked apple pie without decoration, but I’m a sucker for pies with a bit of lattice work!

Fresh Baked Apple Pie

Bake your pie for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown. Let it sit for 25-30 minutes (patience is a virtue!!) and enjoy!

Baked Apple Pie Finished

This apple pie tastes delicious with some vanilla bean ice cream and, if you’re anything like me, a dash of extra cinnamon on top 🙂
